Itty Bitty Mani Pedi

itty bitty mani pedi
Some squirmed, some cried, and everyone got their nails trimmed.

  1. Precious! Clipping always brings out the worst in a kitten - how could we be so mean?!

  2. Even after two years, my wee baby still cries and squirms when it's time for a pedicure.

That picture is so sweet (and so cruel, because we always love to capture those precious moments that aren't always flattering).

  3. It looks like Jerry Lee is protesting with his teeth. "Noo! Not my claws! I need them for clinging to the carpet!" Momma Belua was probably grateful for now dulled kitty nails kneeding at her belly.

I feel like such a villian when I have to trim kitty nails. It's not my fault, Kitties!

  4. Because my Potter is still a "nurser" at 4+ years old, I love it when he's just had a trim. I hold my thumb for him to "nurse" or he'll go for my neck. No embarrassing and painful kitty hickeys for me. I try to keep a towel between me and the kneading claws but a good mani/pedi can't be beat. I have to catch Potter and Beatrix while they are napping or there's no way they'll let me do their nails.
    Brave little Jerry Lee!

  6. He looks a bit upset, someone's going to have to defend themselves against the vicious bed bunnies... lol

  7. The nail clippers are tickly I bet. It's great that you are doing it for them so young. Their forever people are gonna be very pleased!

  8. LOL anne b! Kitty hickeys, indeed! :D Fortunately, my only "nurser" (years ago) would go for fabrics... an afghan or towel or even my top.

Nowdays, my girls manage keep their sharp little tines in shape somehow, but Chester, my kneader, has super sharp, long talons. And he hates the clippers!

Agree with Kit, I'm sure mama Buelah is much more comfortable, post trim. IBKclaws are like itty bitty razors! My legs looked like I'd walked a mile through brambles when we fostered!

  9. Look how brave our sweet Jerry Lee is being! He's got his nose tucked in to Mama Laurie's thumb, and his eyes half closed, as if to say, "I really don't like this!" But he's letting her do it anyway.

When our now 5 year-old Maren came to live with us 3 1/2 years ago, she'd been severely abused. I had to swaddle her in a towel to clip her nails, and only do a few at a time.

Today it isn't her favorite activity, but we do it without the towel, and there's always a catnip party afterward. That's her favorite activity!

  10. Bless little Jerry Lee's heart.

Yes. There is crying when we nail clip at my home. It's me doing the crying. Though my beloved female baby allows me to clip, the orange boy is all tazmanian devil when I attempt to clip.

Nurser! I my orange boy is a nurser still at the age of 6, but thankfully, I was able to transfer him to a soft t-shirt that we call his "lovie".

  12. Awww. My kits have squirmy wormy times when it's nail trim time too, and they're no longer even close to IBKs. But cheers to start them early, it'll really, really help their forever homes! :-)

  13. Squee! How cute! Do you actually find that clipper easier to use on kitten-claws? I much prefer the typical curvy scissor-shaped cat-nail clipper for my very small 6 year old kitty, but I can't remember whether it was too big when she was a baby.

She squirmed when she was a tiny thing, but then I started giving her treats when I did it and she started to look forward to it.

When I had to put her on a diet I just switched to fish-flavored hairball remedy, her favorite thing IN THE WORLD. I sit cross-legged and keep the tube in the crook of my knee. So now she purrs the whole time.

  14. Darling Jerry Lee... that's the smartest thing you're doing for him, getting him used to the idea of claw care! Good for you! Treats all around!

  15. anon,, these type of clippers work better on teeny tiny nails. we use the other kind as they get bigger.

  16. Laurie, what a team you and Kim make. She clips, you photograph. The IBKs are so fortunate to get so much love from their wonderful people.

  17. My cat purrs when I clip her nails. Oh, it doesn't stop her from shredding me, though. She's all about mixed messages.

  18. Anne - The purrs are for your kitty's peace of mind. The shredding it the purest expression of distaste for you DARING to try to control her!

My two growl and yowl as I get each paw done. The poly girl get very ticked very fast on the front - the dew claws between the paw and the extra toe can be a "joy" to trim.

I am always pleased to complete a pawdicure - it IS an accomplishment!

  19. Our little man is so squirmy that we take him to the vet for his mani pedi's.

Somehow this makes me feel a little less guilty - he can place his intense hatred toward someone else. Interestingly, the girls at the vet always say that he is sweet and cooperates fully. What's up with that?!
