Who's that Big Boy ???

fergus by martha
Take a look at this lovely photo of IBKC graduate, Fergus, taken by his mom, Martha. It was taken at his visit to the vet. He's growing like a weed! He left us at a two and a half pounds, and now he close to four. It sounds like he's doing great in his new home. I know they absolutely adore the boy.

More Kitty Milestones

pickets 161Jerry Lee Pickett
I have to wonder, does Jerry Lee know he doesn't have a tail? At first, he was a little bit more of a wobbly walker than the rest, but now he's doing really great. It just took him a while longer to figure it all out because he's missing his "rudder".

He too is using the littler box. He also is drinking from the water bowl and eating crunchies too. This weekend all the kittens got to try wet cat food. Beulah is starting to push the babies off her when they try to nurse, so the weaning has begun.

A Happy Mothers Day for Beulah Mae

beulah mae pickett
Beautiful, beautiful Beulah Mae Pickett, we celebrate you today. You are such a sweet and nurturing mother whose patience never grows thin. Your babies love you dearly, and so do we.

DSC_0247
DSC_0242

You are indeed a special girl... and we're not the only ones who can see how special you are. You see, a few days ago we found a home for Beulah Mae AND one of her babies will be going with her!! Isn't that just wonderful??

It's not always that easy to find a home for an adult cat, even when they are as beautiful and dear as Ms Beulah Mae. So we, of course, are thrilled to no end that she has found a loving home. I am not revealing any more details at this point, including which kitten will be going with her. So don't ask please, you will just have to wait.

I would like to wish a very big Happy Mothers Day to Beulah Mae and her mother to be. And Happy Mothers Day to all you mothers out there! When I say all mothers, I mean mothers to humans and critters alike. Including my own mom, of course.

Happy Mothers Day!

Perhaps you recognize this handsome kitty featured on the bag. It's Cassius, from the original IBKC! Laura, of Laura Bee Designs created this delightful design. It's one of her custom photo bags. You can send in a picture of your own kitty ( or a snapshot of anything... ) and she can create a unique piece using your image. You can find out more about her beautiful products by visiting her blog or shop.

More Mayfields

Here's another one of the recently discovered Mayfield videos. In this one, you get to hear the fabulous purrrrrrr of Mr. LeRoy.

In the second video, Clementine and LeRoy start the wrestling match. Once Clemmie grows bored, LeRoy takes on his napping brother, Auggie. Poor Auggie !

Porter Takes On Charlene's Tail

I discovered a bunch Mayfield videos on my old digital camera the other day. Although the quality isn't the best, it was fun to see the the Mayfields in motion again. Here's a little clip of tiny little Porter taking on Charlene's gigantic tail. I love how Charlene wiggles it in front of him, then looks away and waits for him to pounce. What a tease !

Merry Little Merriweathers

We had the Merriweathers spend the day with us two whole days in a row. The first day some were still a bit timid around Charlene, but when they returned the second day, they were so happy to see their friend. I love Jeffy's excited little tail sticking straight up.

One Month Review

Ruth Anne Pickett

It's hard to believe, but The Picketts will be one month old on Thursday. This is the first batch of fosters we've had who haven't been hand fed. It's amazing to see how much faster they grow and develop with a mama cat to feed them. Lovell is already over a pound. Usually they hit the one pound mark after five weeks. Even though Ruth Anne is considerably smaller at 11 ounces, she still weighs about what a kitten should at that age. So even our runt is big!

They are all so stable, strong and playful now. They love to run, climb and wrestle. Lovell is even using the litter box! Remarkable!

They are interacting with us humans a lot more too! Twyla loves to be cupped in your hands and held. She'll just sit there looking at you until she dozes off. Nadine loves to have her broad belly tickled. They all love to climb up and sit on your lap.

Because we got these kittens so young, I thought we would have them a very long time. At the rate they are going, they'll be out the door in record time!

Itty Bitty Baking Committee

Yesterday we celebrated Kim's birthday. Our dear friend Colette, baked this lovely kitty cake in her honor. How sweet!

Happy Birthday Kim!

And a big Happy Birthday to my dear old dad who celebrated his birthday yesterday too!

Up-Side the Head

Mitchell Merriweather
Mitchell MerriweatherMitchell Merriweather

Poor little Mitchell Merriweather. He was just sitting there, minding his own business when all of a sudden "THWACK". Charlene Butterbean thought he needed a bath, and attempted to pull him in with her paw. No, he wasn't hurt a bit. He feathers weren't ruffled at all. After it happened, he just sat there. Then Charlene came closer, rolled him, and gave him a good cleaning. He seemed to love every single second of it.

Lovely Lovell Pickett

DSC_0278
Our tiny little orange guy has a name, and it's Lovell Pickett. Lovell isn't so little anymore. He out weighs every babe in this batch. He's a bit of a piggy too. When it's time to eat, he nudges himself in where ever he wants, even if there's another kitty parked there already. He'll just burrow and burrow and push them away.

Lovell is greedy at the milk bar, but generous with love. He's a cuddly guy with lots of purrs to share. His pale orange coat is so soft and fluffy. I don't need to tell you how handsome he is... take a look for yourself.

Itty Bitty Emi Committee

emi art
I just recieved the most precious gift last night. Emi, whose family adopted Penny and Pierre from the original IBKC litter, created this darling sculpture of Charlene and LeRoy for me. I simply adore it and I will treasure it a lifetime. Thank you Emi!!

I also wanted to wish a happy birthday to Penny and Pierre who just celebrated their one year birthday! It's hard to believe our very first babies are that old. I get the occasional update from Emi and her sister Abby. It sounds like they have grown up to be wonderful cats. I'm sure it's because they get so much love from Emi, Abby, and the rest of their family.

Jerry Lee Tells All

DSC_0210
His full name is Gerald Leland Pickett, but we ALWAYS call him Jerry Lee. It just suits him. Jerry Lee has something he's been hiding from you. If he'd turn around you'll see what I am talking about. ( He's the one on the far right.)
DSC_0238
Yep, little Jerry Lee was born without a tail. All he's got is a teeny tiny bump on his teeny tiny hiney. It doesn't seem to slow him down a bit, he's right on course with his brother and sisters. What he lacks in tail, he more than makes up for in toes. Just like Mama, he's polydactyl.

Mega Merriweather Post !

After Sue said goodbye to The Holsteins, she said she was going to take a little kitty break. That didn't last too long. She caved in when she saw this little batch of toddlers, The Merriweathers, in the Humane Society foster room last week. Who could resist such darlings?

Yesterday, Sue brought the Merriweather family over to our house for a photoshoot. It was great timing. Charlene woke up bored yesterday and spent the morning being naughty and pestered her big sister, Drewey, to no end. She was thrilled to interact with the kitties in the afternoon. Not all of the Merriweathers were as thrilled as Charlene, there was a little hissing and puffing from the kittens. Charlene was calm and patient. She ignored their tiny threats and moved in slowly to give them baths. By the end of the afternoon, she made a couple of new friends, although she didn't win the affection of all.
DSC_0326

I hope you are all sitting down, I am going to give you a big dose of Merriweathers. Be prepared to be dazzled. They truly are kitten gems. They are about six weeks old right now and will be ready for adoption well before The Picketts. So for those of you who have inquired about adopting, please consider these babies as well.

And now... I bring you...The Merriweathers....

Girl Number Three: Nadine Pickett

DSC_0077
This darling miss is Nadine Picket. She's the third and final girl kitty in the Pickett litter. She's quiet, demure, and as sweet as pie. Sometimes she'll sit back and watch the world go by. Other times, she's right in the the middle of it all. She started off looking more like a dilute tortie. He color is shifting now and she's looking a little more tabby. It will be interesting to see her develop. She too was blessed with extra toes.

Belly Up to the Milk Bar, Babies

DSC_0229.JPG
As the kittens grow bigger, it's harder for them all to squeeze into their position at the milk bar. It's quite competitive. There's a lot of squirming, climbing, wiggling and crying, but eventually they all find a place.

Here's a very satisfied, post breakfast, tiny orange guy.
